About Self Ordering kiosk
A self-ordering kiosk is an interactive, self-service station that allows customers to browse a digital menu, place an order, and pay for it directly, all without the assistance of a cashier or server.
These kiosks have become extremely popular in quick-service restaurants (QSRs), fast-food chains, cinemas, and stadiums. They are essentially a combination of a digital menu, an ordering system, and a payment terminal in one.
How Self-Ordering Kiosks Work
The process is simple for the customer:
Browse: The customer uses a large touchscreen to look through the menu, which often features high-quality images and detailed descriptions.
Customize: They can easily add or remove ingredients, select sizes, and customize their order (e.g., "no pickles," "extra cheese").
Upsell: The system often suggests add-ons, "combo" deals, or desserts, which can increase the average order value.
Pay: The customer pays directly at the kiosk using a credit/debit card, a mobile wallet (like Apple Pay or Google Pay), or sometimes by scanning a loyalty app.
Confirm: The kiosk issues a receipt with an order number. The order is sent directly to the kitchen or preparation area (Kitchen Display System) for the staff to fulfill.
Collect: The customer waits for their number to be called or to appear on a status screen, then collects their order from the pickup counter.
